Saw your request on Twitter to comment if I knew of a recent social media hire. I'm actually trying to find a good social media job but I'm concerned I may have to take a more traditional internet marketing role first. My resume is linked to my name above.

If you know of talented online customer experience strategists who can design and advance the user experience of a cutting-edge payment product we'd like to speak with you/them.

We are conducting a retained search for the VP, Product-Online Business for a very innovative/disruptive company in the payments arena. The role is NYC-based.

The primary focus of the role will be to design interactive experiences that can be created to extend an online money transfer platform within social and instant messaging networks. S/he will create product experiences to go after discreet markets with a page, a widget, mobile, etc – this executive will determine the look and feel of the user/consumer experience as well as the product vision and roadmap while ensuring the delivery of products.

Ideal candidates will have previous creative or editorial content experience before moving into a product role. This individual must have proven experience in the creation of engaging, interactive experiences for the consumer.

Many thanks,
Marian Rich

Thanks for the mention, Jeremiah! Blogging for Google Tutor has been fun so far, as it gives me a chance to talk about Google's role in social media, a topic others don't seem to be talking about that much (but should be).

I think the watershed moment for me was when an editor of mine said, "You gotta write for 'Joe Six-Pack.'" She meant, as a journalist, I need to writer stupider, because my readers were stupid. Now, I don't have false humility regarding my own Super-Mega-Ultra-Brain power, but I knew for a fact that most of my readers were smarter than me. And every single one was smarter about something. I left that outfit and, powered by this belief, wound up scoring writing gigs with Newsweek, Reuters, LA Times, the Chron, SFBG, etc.

A scant 8 years after that and, voila, social media presented itself. I thereupon got down and/or funky. So, now another realization. The excess of passion for conversation that I have now is no more a liability than my belief in my readers was then, not to the right company, anyway.

That's a rather turgid way of saying: I'm looking for a job in social media. But with this important caveat: If you don't believe your customers are smarter than you, we probably wouldn't be a good fit.

The link above, to my blog, will also lead you to my LinkedIn and Emurse accounts.
