Web Strategist appears on Cranky Geeks Video Show

Categories: VideoPosted on November 7th, 2007

I’m neither cranky or geeky enough to qualify to be on the famed Cranky Geeks show hosted by John Dvorak. I was tired as heck today after all the Facebook coverage yesterday but i was able to make it to their great studio in San Francisco. They recorded this piece in the afternoon, had multiple cameras and were switching them live, had organized stories, and published the video within hours. A real pro outfit.

Watch the video over at the Cranky Geeks site (30min in duration)

What did we talk about? MySpace, Google’s Android, Facebook, Security, Hackers, Leopard, and other geekery. John, Sebastian from PC mag were the regular hosts, and Ryan Block from Engadget (top 10 blog) and myself.

See you at Vegas! I’m headed to Blog World Expo tomorrow where there will be over a hundred speakers and thousands of attendees. If you’re going to be there, let’s meetup!

When John wasn’t looking, I took a bunch of photos:

  • Hi Jeremiah

Just read your comments about Facebook's advertising initiative quoted in the New York:

"While Facebook executives said that the ads would feel more like content because they would be yoked to a friend’s comments, some analysts said the approach could backfire.

“Just because you like Reebok doesn’t mean I am going to like Reebok,” said Jeremiah Owyang, a senior analyst at Forrester Research."

I'd also add to that if recommending something to a "friend" (how well do you really know all your Facebook contacts?)only takes a couple of clicks - it doesn't have the same weight as someone taking the time post on their blog or Twitter or even post on a forum in greater detail. What I'm saying is that little effort required to recommned something can devalue the impact of that recommendation. Add to that "A message from our sponsers" - i.e. the advert and that might turn me off a product.
  • I wish you and brogan good luck with your presentation. Hope you can record it.
