Behind the Scenes of the Web Strategy Blog
(Left: Thomas Hawk catches me blogging at the BlogHaus)
A few weeks ago, I shared my thoughts on the five stages of blogging, from creation to achievement.
First appearances? A “flickering” of content
Someone mentioned to me that my blog is a ‘flickering’ of information. Content flashes in, flashes out, but just for quick brief impressions. To the new reader of Web Strategy by Jeremiah it looks like I’m writing about a lot of different topics, eclectic perhaps. To me, and those that know me, it looks very cohesive, and each post serves a different purpose, and for a different audience.
Understanding the Focus both content and commitment
There’s actually three or four interest and focus areas that I’m writing about, which can constantly keep me busy. I’m up early in the morning reading and blogging (it’s 4:30am right now) and I’m getting in my blogging before heading to the gym, breakfast then the workday. I often have dozens of active posts that I’m working on, some on the plane, some in draft, some on paper, I currently have over 100 posts in draft, some will become future posts.
What are the areas of focus I write about?
-Corporate + Social Media
-Social Media Measurement
-New web technology: Web services, widgets, mashups
-Modern and disruptive Web Marketing
-Social networks, community, and people
-Coverage of web events
Methodology
I also try to write my content so it’s easily scanned, I add formatting, bold, use bullet lists, and make it really easy for folks to understand the big idea very quickly. My biggest struggle? spelling and grammar, but as long as my ideas are getting out there and spreading (which they are) then I’m ok with it. I’m a pretty fast typist (I’ve been playing piano since age 4) so I really try to limit the amount of time per post. It should only take about as long as an email of equal length.
Use Media to tell the story
Most of the time I use text, and I’m known to take thousands of pics on flickr (16,086 photos / 135,036 views) and I have a video blog show called Web Strategy Show where I interview the top minds in each of the above areas.

But what’s the overall purpose my blog? It’s already obvious, to connect with others, learn from others, and be seen. I get a few emails every week from people that need help with their websites, and I triage them off to different companies I know, and often, a lot of business comes back to my employer. The customer and sales team also reads my blog, so it’s also like a ‘living white paper’ for them to understand this market better.

Hi Jeremiah,
I found your blog just today and I’m stunned. It’s great stuff, great topics. You say to new readers it may seem that you write about many different topics, however I think that on a meta point of view it’s clear how the elements work together
Best regards,
Denis
