CommunityNext Viral: Find out who the hard core community folks are
Categories: Community Marketing, Conference, Social Media, Social NetworkingPosted on July 14th, 2007We’re here at Plug and Play in sunnyvale, which appears to be a startup incubator, there’s a lot of good folks here, many of which you know, so watch the pictures.
How do we know they’re hard core? because it’s Saturday morning and it’s so nice outside in the SF Bay Area, there’s folks that have flown from around the country to come to this event, fantastic.
Noah was so gracious to invite me to come to Community Next, (go to the site, they are live streaming the event) in fact he gave me a free ticket to raffle off, so I held a contest, for the community to answer “how do you kick start a community” there were so many great ideas, and eventually I was able to come up with a winner, Chris Salazar.
One of the great giveaways to all attendees was Tim Ferris’s book, the Four Hour workweek. While I still think it’s impossible for the average person, the concepts are great and should be applied, that’s why I pay myself first.
The first presenter was a MySpace founder, he shared his experience launching a truly viral website. His opening question? How did you first learn about MySpace? From advertising or from word of mouth.
I’m not going to be here all day, (I’m not that hard core) and I see a lot of folks live blogging, so I’ll link to them later.

Daniela Barbosa wrote some feedback. She’s right about some of the morning speakers, a few people told me they weren’t overly blown away. “Couldn’t hear them, they weren’t passionate, and weren’t giving it their all.” I missed the afternoon sessions, so maybe things improved. There’s other people talking about community next, here’s a link to Technorati!
