“Community is stronger than search” declares keynote speaker Dan Scheinman. Communities have power to connect like minded interests and people, reducing the need for raw search. “Community is the center of everything”.
Dan also suggested that “Search is sometimes used when we’re too embarrassed to ask someone else” while, not totally accurate quite entertaining. “Search is a segue to something else” Agreed, the way search has been positioned in the history of the web as a tool that transports you quickly to another site, now with Google’s content play with Blogger, YouTube, and Google Video, they’re getting into the content space. One of the most interesting concepts at today’s New media Summit was hearing Tom talk about how can spread with velocity. While on his blog he seems somewhat hesitant to share, it was the closing remarks in his panel. A single idea can thread across many sites, there is no limitation to how far it can reach and go. Great morsel of knowledge Tom.
