MXPlay is Dynamic Audio, Change the “Location” of Speakers of MP3s in Real Time

Categories: Web ToolsPosted on April 2nd, 2007

You really need to download this and try for yourself, I can’t explain it using text.

I received an in person demo of MXPlay from the CEO, Rupen Rupen Dolasia today here at PodTech. Nearly a year ago I checked out some beta demos, and now they’ve gone live.

[MXPlay lets the user change the location of speakers to any MP3 in real time]

This is an AMAZING piece of software that you download, and it lets users control how the speakers rotate around them in real time. It sits on top of your iTunes library and can pull in the content, so it’s a complement to existing local libraries. There is also a web directory to purchase or find other content. Lastly, there’s a video mashup so you can mix your music up on top of videos and then save and share with others. Elias has some interesting observations on speaker placement being ‘virtual’. Sunil suggests that the music ‘comes to life’, (my version of saying ‘dynamic’)

[In many ways, MXPlay is the Audio version of Scrapblog]

There are hooks so that users can then share these on myspace, blogs or other websites. Some bands have already signed up with. Rupen also brought a Nintendo Wii controller that let’s users change it in real-time.

Potential Applications of MXPlay:

-When music goes multi-channel, a user could re-arrange an orchestra or band live on the stage and move the band pieces around
-Move around a conference table using a live skypecast
-Real time gaming sound control
-Interactive podcasts that let users move closer to Scoble or interviewer, (now think about multi video channel and things get really interesting)
-Users in Second Life can walk around and move speakers in a virtual space and change how it sounds.
-Music professionals and editors can ‘walk closer’ to specific music elements, amplify and tweak

Any company in the audio space should check this out such as Apple’s iTunes, Nintendo, Pandora, Last FM, Microsoft Media player, Quicktime team, Splashcast, YouTube, LindenLabs, and any other company with a player or 3D type game
