YouTube awards are Insular, and why the Vloggies is better for the Online Video Industry

Categories: PodtechPosted on March 19th, 2007

We at PodTech held the first Vloggies award ceremony last year in Nov in SF. Apparently, YouTube also thinks this was a good idea and is holding their own says Mashable.

If you’ve not seen the Vloggies Site, there are interviews up with the top vloggers, being interviewed at SXSW, you can subscribe via RSS of course. If you weren’t able to attend the 2006 Vloggies, this video summarizes it pretty well.

Which is better? Well, in addition to being the first, PodTech’s vloggies is platform agnostic, we honor and award to vloggers even if they don’t use YouTube, like Blip, Revver, and a bunch others.

[We should recognize the best video bloggers regardless of the tools they use]

Imagine if the Academy Awards only gave Oscars to films that came from one movie studio… it’s kinda like that.

  1. Some of the greatest videos can be found here. What do you think of these?

  2. IVS

These are great examples of “Viral Videos”, one-offs that are often not part of an ongoing series (that’s what a Video blogger is btw)

The Vloggies are awards that are more geared for ongoing online video producers, make sense?

  3. IVS, I also see you’ve left the same comment on the other blogs on this topic, with the heavy use of Google ads, this looks like a cash cow for you!
