Web Theory: End results of The Collective Internet

Categories: Web TheoryPosted on January 2nd, 2007

Controversial social topic covered by Guardian Unlimited of a survey conducted by a magazine called Edge: No religion and an end to war: how thinkers see the future.

“The web magazine Edge (www.edge.org) asked more than 150 scientists and intellectuals: “What are you optimistic about?” Answers included hope for an extended human life span, a bright future for autistic children, and an end to violent conflicts around the world.

Philosopher Daniel Denett believes that within 25 years religion will command little of the awe it seems to instil today. The spread of information through the internet and mobile phones will “gently, irresistibly, undermine the mindsets requisite for religious fanaticism and intolerance”.

Interesting, but I highly doubt that the collective intelligence of the world will create just one form of  thinking, in fact, I suspect it will be a springboard for diverse thought.

I don't think that the collective intelligence will lead to a uniform thought. I read the above as information=knowledge that leads to rational thought.

Now you know why so many countries restrict the ability of the people to access outside information;-) If people can educate themselves, then it basically reduces the power that the government can have over their daily lives.
