Speaking of Web Strategy…

Categories: Web StrategyPosted on December 9th, 2006

A Web Strategist should be able to have a full converastion about their vision of the web without even mentioning tools or technology. The conversation should be at the feature and benefit level, include people and should be articulated with normal English.

I define a Web Strategist is one who defines the long term vision for a website that meets the needs of Users, the Business, and the Tools.

Speaking of defining roles, I’ve been called a Web Hippie, an Evil Liar, and an Neo Marketer.

  • Is 'web strategist' a higher-level categorization? By their very job definition, web product managers are web strategists. Sometimes you'll find business and technology consultants as well as traditional marketing folks too.

I think you hit it on the head when you say they need to understand the users, business, and tools. While they often go by a number of other titles, a variety of folks fill the role.
  • Awesome Rob, you get it

A web strategist is a a duty that can be found in many different roles:

Web Product Manager, Web Director, Web Manager, Sr Engineer, etc.
