Community and Evangelism by Miss Rogue

If you’re involved with Social Media, Community, or care about customers, you must read these ten points by Tara Hunt, it’s the Rules of Engagement.  Tara (pronounced Tar-ah) deployed her version of marketing called pinko marketing at Riya earlier this year.  Brian is glad that she’s modified her format to suggest that markters indeed to have a voice, although listening is much more important than crafting messages.

You can learn more about Tara on her personal blog, or check out her consulting agency Citizen Agency that is focused at helping startups get the word out.

Here’s my take on it:

  • Old School Marketing: Crafting messages to change people
  • New School Marketing: Listening to your market, engaging in conversations with them, and telling stories, listen again and build better products and services using collaborative web tools.

While I understand how appropriate Pinko Marketing is for startups, I suggest the Corporate response is “Community Marketing”. (click on the categories on right to learn more.
