Oracle Acquires Stellent Content Management System

Categories: Web IndustryPosted on November 25th, 2006

Thanks to Storagezilla (an EMC blogger, who graciously saluted me farewell) informs that Stellent was recently purchased by Oracle for $440,000,000. Pretty interesting, as you know Oracle recently purchased Peoplesoft, and now has a CMS system. EMC has Documentum, (in addition to acquiring quite a few other companies), I wonder how this will all work, of if there is still plenty of room for several CMS systems.

Out of these large enterprise software vendors, I can’t wait to hear who will acquire a blogging platform first. I missed this important news about Stellent, this was during my Asia vacation. Read the news from the Oracle site to learn more.

  • I too wondered about that a while back, and came to the conclusion that probably none of them will buy a blogging platform. I've blogged a small part of that tonight.

As for Oracle and ECM, this is like their third or fourth attempt at it after launching numerous internally developed offerings over the years only to watch them wither & die in the marketplace. There's room for numerous systems out there since the Oracle/IBM sales pitch is to do their utmost to own *all* the code you're using, from the DB upwards. Enterprises as we all know tend to be more heterogeneous than that, and Microsoft is driving SharePoint hard in the low and mid range markets.

No help for Oracle there then. ;)
