Green Screen Demo at Podcamp
I arrived pretty late to Saturday’s Podcamp West and only had enough time to really sink my teeth into the the final session, a Green Screen demo by Alex Lindsey. Many video bloggers are starting to use Digital Backgrounds, such as the Venetian Princess a rising YouTube star. We learned that the lighting sources between the subject and green screen need to be completely independent. Many lighters are moving away from the ‘Halo’ hair light effect.
In the vendor room, I was particularly interested in learning more about the products that RawVoice has, it appears they’ve an interesting platform for podcasters and videobloggers. Glad I was able to befriend Bob Safuto, a brand blogger.
Although advertised as a unconference, some attendees told me this wasn’t the case. Many felt they learned a lot regardless. The timing was great for this event, after some drinks at Cafe Du Nord, we headed to dinner at the med (where we spotted Kevin Rose and Nick Douglas) and then off to the laughing squid party. It’s still pretty cool to think my colleagues will be Eddie and Irina of Geek Entertainment TV.
Thanks Vic Podcaster (seen below with Geek TV) for putting together a community event

I have worked on green screen many months ago. I couldn’t eliminate the green screen wrinkles. Or I couldn’t get the lighting to spread evenly. Who should I talk to for advise?
Ahhhh
I’m glad you asked! They went over this at the session. The first thing to do is to spray it with water using a ’spritzer’ this will help to relax the screen.
Lighting it on it’s own is key, you’ll have to use at least two lights like they did to make it even.
I should have gone to the podcamp this weekend. I just work on too many weekends lately.
I tried books, weight and hot steam iron. I’ll try water next time.
I tried two lights too. I think there will be more involved than just light sources. May be angle and distance are involved.
I am using the software as teleprompter just like the professional TV production with scrolling text, speed and timer. So the distance is not the same as using a professional video camera.
We have to input video script into the telepromter so the anchor can read from the screen looking into camera without looking down.

The green screen session was definitely informative. I’ve never tried it, but maybe when PodTech builds out its studio, I’ll get the chance. Great to be working with you, Jeremiah. Let’s do that lunch soon!
