Just had a conversation with Brian Oberkirch for way over an hour this morning while he waits in the Dallas airport. We discussed the web industry, social sites, facebook, youtube, web strategy and even created a few stupid geek jokes. He helped me solidfy some loose ideas I had in my head (you’ll see these in future blog posts) about the ‘New’ web, and the impacts to business.
Brian comes to the Bay Area from New Orleans on business and pleasure frequently, very frequently. Each time he comes, he packs in so many important events, meeting the right people, and makes the most out of every minute. Most think he lives here, hope he doesn’t.
Brian’s passion for the web, social media, and our craft as Web Professionals constantly impresses me. He’s known for his work on the Slidell Huuricane Blog, he helped bring the community together using Social Media. His warm personality attracts folks (and the right folks) that engage him in our craft. For someone that’s lives so far away from Silicon Valley he maintains relationships with all the movers and shakers by using social media as his communication platform.
Check out what he’s done in the last few days:
- Interviewed founder of Dogstar Ted Rheingold
- Interviewed founder of Kiva, Matt
- interviewed Chad of the Yahoo Developer Network
I’m always impressed (and scares me a bit on his openness) for the amount of information he shares online and on his flickr stream, he’s really living his life open to the world. As a social media consultant, he practices what he preaches. When you check out his blog, you’ll see that he interviews interesting folks that are making a difference in the industry.
If your company is in need of someone to help you understand Social Media (blogs, social sites, podcasts, and god knows what’s next) I highly encourage you to contact him, he’s truly a master at his art, and a warm engaging person to guide you in this new medium.
Brian, safe journey to you back to your family, looking forward to the next time we meet up!

Oh look… two of the people that have inspired me the most over the last year in one photo.
Seriously, though, guys… I have been accumulating feeds in my feedreader like crazy, but you are consistently the ones I stay on top of right away.
I love what you’re doing for everyone that will listen/read.

Brian’s been on a sick roll lately with his last three Edgework interviews. I’d get on it. Folks interested in what Jeremiah is writing about will also find a lot of value in what Brian is writing about.

[...] Not to be bandwagonesque, but Jeremiah Owyang also recently had a post about Brian. [...]
