Categories: EventsPosted on October 4th, 2006

I’ms such a geek, I just emailed Robert Scoble who is sitting a few feet next to me about the next lunch 2.0 (Update: he’ll be out of town he just replied back). We’re a talk at the Ritz Carlton in Half Moon bay about Enteprise IT and Web 2.0. Heh, he actually just walked her as he lives a few blocks away!

Dave McClure let me know about oDesk is going to host the next Lunch2.0 event in Menlo Park on Friday from 4-6pm. you can sign up here.

You can learn more about oDesk on their website, or on their blog. They were one of the first “blog advertisers” to appear on techmeme.

  • I couldn't help but notice this sounds a lot like guru.com. I did a quick google and came up with http://weblog.infoworld.com/openresource/archiv... which also draws a comparison (and some rebuttal comments). Browsing the list of providers from the home page, I was pretty amazed at the low prices.

I checked out guru.com years ago when I was unemployed, but it seemed like most gigs were being snatched up by the same developers, so your only hope was to work for peanuts for a long time to try and get more history on your profile. Maybe that is part of the business plan that you have 2 classes of workers: one elite, with whom you get your great feedback quotes and high profile clients from, and the second tier of disposable workers who keep your volume alive and lure new clients w/dirt cheap prices. Take a look at the average vs max price on the providers list on oDesk home page.

Still, I think it is probaby a great opportunity for many of the providers listed at oDesk to connect with international gigs and vice versa.
