Jeremiah Owyang discusses how web tools and social media enable companies to connect with customers

Renaming Web 2.0. What term to use?

David doesn’t like the term Web 2.0, nor does Andy  (read comments) so what should we call it?

Social Media?
No, as that doesn’t include Rich Internet Applications like AJAX.

Modern Web?
No, as that term won’t be relevant 10 years from now.

Participants Era?
Same issue as Social Media –it doesn’t account for RIA.

I give up, please help –what’s the best term to use?

Can’t say I like 2.0 too much as well. The Collaborative Web(real word?)?

As stated by others, the tough thing is that there’s really not something better out there to describe the current state of the internet. Perhaps someone like Seth Godin will give us a cool term…

    Thanks D

But “Collaborative Web” falls into the same trap as others –it doesn’t account for RIA.

It’s a misnomer to say this is the *social web* as I’d argue right now the web enables me to do social transactions but it’s not a social web. I can leave comments, IM, chat etc… but I do this in a solitary manner. There isn’t someone sitting next to me as I’m IMing… in fact I get bothered when someone is looking over my shoulder. […]
