Seeking Information on Channel 9

I’m doing some research on Channel 9 as a successful example of Online Community Marketing. I even called Robert and Maryam Scoble around 11pm last night while they were driving down to CA to get some info.

I learned about some of the origins, how the team did it, and how they we’re willing to ask for forgiveness rather than permission and the risks they took. He suggested I contact one of the founders, I sent him an email, hopefully he’ll respond.

If anyone has any interesting info on the history of Channel 9, the challenges, costs, risks, and examples of success, I’d be interested in knowing.

This is interesting: “Marketing has no place on Channel 9. When we spend money on Channel 9 the goal is to surprise and delight, not to promote or preach.”

Channel 9’s code of conduct

They’re using a product called “Community Server” and a tool called FlexWiki.

I’ve got some other information from Scoble –but I’m also looking for some online information “about” the program.

If you’ve got more info, please leave a comment below, also, I’m on a plane today for 6 hours, some may be moderated and I’ll get to them when I get back online. I think workpress allows those who already left a comment (from same IP?) to publish instantly.

  • Cool — if you have questions about Community Server, which is used to drive a number of other community sites like the recently launched Dell one2one.dell.com please don’t hestitate to email me 🙂

  • Wow cool, thanks Rob

What percentage of Channel 9 is made with your out of the box software?
