Enterprise Adoption of Web 2.0 –Nascent but Evolving

As one who’s working on his fourth enterprise Intranet, I try to stay in tune to tools that can improve intranets

I recently commented on the use of RSS as the future of Intranet protocols, and now realize this prompts greater discussions of the toolset as a whole on thoughts as web moves into this new movement some call Web 2.0.

We’re already starting to see social networks and social media tools enter the enterprise space –this must be harnessed by internal IT departments, or employees can easily adopt other tools outside of the firewall. Tools like blogs, podcasts, Social sites like facebook, and even collaboration tools like basecamp.

Here’s a collection of some of the thoughts I’ve been reading about this. Not to mention watching how Microsoft will adopt it’s sharepoint to harness these –flexibility will be key here

• Dr. Dennis and I wrote a White Paper outlining how enterprise IT can harness these tools, and we’re starting to see more and more discussions occurring.
• Intranet Trends to Watch for in 2006 –Shiv Singh, CIO Magazine
  He suggests watching blogs, rss, Ajax, ROI measurement and harnessing social software
  
• Creating real business value with Web 2.0 –Dion Hinchcliffe at ZDnet
  He gives several examples of companies that can both provide such changes as well as adopt to social media.
• Is Web 2.0 enterprise-ready? –Nick Carr, Does IT matter?
  He explores and challenges ‘traditional knowledge management’ practices.
• A Web 2.0 Intranet on the cheap –Phil Sim, MediaConnect
  I’m seeing some interesting developments in creating some AJAX applications –seamless and RIA intranets would be an interesting adoption of Web 2.0 changes. Check out the product Zimbra as an example. (Which Robyn pointed out to me a while back –some dub Zimbra as a Sharepoint Killer, however we’ve not heard much since)
