Jeremiah Owyang discusses how web tools and social media enable companies to connect with customers

Jeremy Zawodny leads Therapy session –My blog version

Jeremy Zawodny (Yahoo’s top blogger) lead a panel a ‘Complaining Session’ about Social Media and web development. Pretty extensive list here by Arienna.

We did this type of group feedback at bloggercon and it was very effective and actually quite therapeutic.

Notable favorites include: (My thoughts in bold)

* there is too much social software and the value of each one is being depleted (over 200 video viral sites now I hear –let alone other social sites)

* connect services so they are not data islands (Yup, We heard this at bloggercon)

* we talk about users not people (oh god, this again? read bullet below…)

* we argue too much about terminology (”buzz words”)

* the computer screen is not the only user interface - ‘think beyond the screen’ (Think mobile people!!!)

* are tags hot? or a solution for broken search? (It’s not a solution for broken search, but now people can attribute how they think to an object –search wouldn’t let us tag, search is not broken –NAVIGATION, Indexing, and Taxonomy is broken)

* spam spam spam (it will never ever end –I promise, promise, promise –unless we get an Anna Bot)

* age is an outdated marketing concept. It’s experiential now. People in this room need some marketing teaching. (Age? that’s just one facet of a person –not sure who just focuses on this.)

* seniors have the most amount of discretionary time & $ - we can’t forget them either (so does the Asian Community, Sheiks in the Middle East and the Gay Community –what are we doing about them?)

Heh, thanks, I feel better now –Blogging is therapy
